How I Understand Problems And Approach My Work:
I believe everyone is shaped by the stories we are told about ourselves, others, and the word. I can help you change your story. As an experienced, warm, and caring therapist, I will work with you collaboratively to understand your unique story, and find solutions that will work for you.
In my work with couples, I believe that helping people better understand themselves and their partners is critical starting point to developing a healthier relationship. In addition to gaining insight and understanding, couples often need to develop new skills to improve their communication and conflict management, and may also benefit from activities to strengthen their bond and connection.
Whether working with individuals or couples, I believe in working collaboratively to understand each client's unique story and to help them identify and work towards new understandings, beliefs, behaviours in order to achieve their specific goals.
Theoretical Approaches:
I primarily use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Emotionally Focused approaches. Using these approaches, I help people identify unhelpful thoughts and beliefs, understand how they developed, and learn how to challenge them, while also learning how to work with, and process difficult emotions. I also draw on numerous other approaches including Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Emotional Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Exposure and Response Prevention (OCD). I work from a trauma informed and anti-oppressive lens.
I have completed level one and two of the Gottman Method Couples Counselling, Level 1 training through the Relational Life Institute, as well as certificate course in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Couples.
